Phone contract checklist
Before you click “upgrade” or sign a new deal, run through this checklist so you don’t get stuck with a contract that’s too long, too expensive or full of extras you don’t need.
1. Contract length and exit fees
Start with how long you’re tied in and what it costs to leave early.
- How many months is the contract?
- What is the total cost over the full term?
- What will they charge if you need to leave early?
2. What you actually get
Don’t just focus on the phone model – check the allowances.
- Minutes, texts and data included each month
- Any speed caps or “fair usage” limits
- Roaming – what happens when you travel abroad?
